Floor on the way

Jake and Nate have organized the base for the lower level floor ...

Pouring happens on Monday.

I think the cylinders are to support the porch.

And the bit in the center is to support the post in the middle of the downstairs (that holds up the middle of the building).

The pile of dirt has gotten smaller.

In other news, the fuschias are looking good.

And the blueberries are starting to look blue.

Drains

I got them:

Rocks too.   The rocks go over the drains & help give the water a path to move though.

Big red truck

A big red truck showed up in my back yard this morning --

IMGP1543.JPG

That's Nate carrying the cardboard box on the right.   Jake (on the left) and the truck driver are unloading a wire grid to put in the concrete floor.

Jake said that they used a pumper truck to pour the concrete in the walls & they'll use one to pour the floor too.

It's really exciting to see a big red truck carrying pipes & things showing up at my house in the morning.   :-)

Fuchsias

I went out to the garden store, to look for concrete "bricks" to use to build planter boxes in the parking strip. I didn't have any luck on the concrete, but I did stumble across some nice looking fuchsia plants. I even put them in larger pots, which turned out to be a good thing, since they were pretty root bound.

IMGP1541.JPG

I did some demuck on the steps and weeded the blueberry plant too.

IMGP1542.JPG

Still a long way to go, but a bit nicer.

Concrete has come

I have basement walls.

First there were forms.

IMGP1460.JPG

IMGP1472.JPG

And forms with supports.

IMGP1483.JPG

IMGP1490.JPG

Then forms with concrete in them.

IMGP1506.JPG

Then the forms come off and there are walls.

I can get into my basement again. Now it's easy.

Concrete is coming

Jake said this morning that the next thing will be for the inspector to look at their forms, then they can pour concrete into them. Jake and Nate were busy building more forms when I left for work. There were more in place when I came home:

Looks like a jumble, but it will look like a house soon.

You can see where the garage door will be, though it is hard to pick out in this picture.

Foundation walls

There are foundation walls coming up. The far side is the one towards the alley.

I should have a wall under the basement door again very soon.

Half size tryout

I decided to make my next project a plain princess seam blouse, using the pattern making software and my half size dress form for the muslim. Here it is with the facing on ...

IMGP1368.JPG

I think the front neckline is too high, but aside from that, it seems ok. This is with the standard size 10 measurements, but I should be able to apply the same settings to my own measurements when I'm satisfied with the design.

I like working in half size because it doesn't take much paper, fabric or time to put the design together. OTOH, it can be hard to make the curves and is a bit fussy to sew. On the third hand, if I can get good at sewing fussy little pieces together, sewing a full size garment should be a snap.

A step up

Or two ...

IMGP1366.JPG

Happily, I can get in to do my laundry. :-)
