Muslin

I am working on the muslin for a t-shirt.   This is the pattern ...

I am trying to make the view with all the tucks around the front.   Sadly, the instructions to make the tucks themselves seem to be garbage.  I tried it before and got no joy for my efforts (nice dustrag though ;-) ).

This time, I am giving up on the tucks & using bias tape to establish the neckline.   Also, I am starting out with a muslin, not in the real fabric (cheap as it is).

I found some bias tape in my stash and made a neckline by putting it on my dressform.   Then I gathered the neckline into it.   I had an idea of trying to keep the idea of the tucks by spacing out the gathers into groups, but that went nowhere.

I don't like the way the gathers go up to the shoulders, so I pulled them all down into the middle.

I'm not at all sure this is an improvement.   The next variation may be to make the neckline longer & lower.   Perhaps that is better.

Or perhaps I should give up on this pattern & go try something else.   The other view, with the tucks across the top, is interesting.   Also, i could just make a plain shirt & give it some interesting sleeves.

East side windows, take 2

I decided that I don't really need a 22' wide garage, splitting the addition down the middle is ok.  That means I could make the windows on the east side symmetric.

Two sets of 2' (about) x 4' windows, spaced evenly along the back wall.   It would be easier to judge without the extra lines & the gridlines in the windows (which I plan not to have), but on the whole, it seems ok -- maybe, I think.

South side windows

I worked on the windows on the south side.  This involved messing around with the staircase, but I finally figured out that if I extended the landing, I can have windows on the corners that don't conflict -- volia

The floors aren't included in this model, so one has the feeling of being suspended in air.

The lower level stairs ...

You can see I made the landing extra wide.   Before I did that, the stairs cut across the window, which looked strange.   The windows in one of the staircases at work do this (the stairs cover the windows) which I have always thought odd.

From the outside ...

More on windows

I did some more tweaks on the windows last night.   Mainly, I put a bathroom in the bedroom on the lower level & tweaked the bathroom, closet and windows until they seemed reasonably harmonious ...

All the lines are edges put in by the cad program.   I didn't want to take the trouble to remove them.   Also, I removed the wall that isn't there.

Here's a top view of the bathroom, closet and windows.   The windows seem a bit odd from inside the bathroom, though not that strange.   I don't want a window on the wall touching the tub (so I don't have to hassle with water on it) & having two windows inside the room is ok.

Another angle of the same thing.

The closet just has an opening (not a door), because I don't like the idea of having to bother with a door right there.   I am imagining hanging a curtain over the opening & pretending it is a form of art.

Windows

I worked on windows for my house.   The pictures aren't very good, but perhaps you can get the general idea.

Windows3

There are two main ideas.  One is that one of the big things (so it seems) that affect how a house looks from the outside are the windows & their placement.   My house is not exactly Versailles

Versailles

but I can at least think about how the windows affect the looks.

The basic idea is that of 2' wide (by 3' high) double hung windows, which happens to be one of the stock kinds in my drawing program.   They are assembled in groups of 2, with a foot between them.   The groups are separated by intervals of either 4' (on the back) or 3' (on the sides).

There is a wall which is not symmetric in the addition, so I can't put the windows across in this pattern all the way.  I put the 2x2 groups symmetrically on the back, but that left a wide gap in the middle, which I thought looked funny, so I centered a 3' wide window there.

Here is the north side.   It has an extra set because I forgot to delete a wall that isn't really there (third from the left on the top row in this image).   The windows really should be spread out more.  However, on the lower floor, there will be a bathroom, so I need to make sure the bathroom  & the windows play well together.

A bit more

It doesn't look like much, but I added a deck floor and railing, plus the stairs & tower and a roof to the stairs.  It still needs windows and piping and a hallway, but the basic idea is look like something  ...
