I worked on windows for my house. The pictures aren't very good, but perhaps you can get the general idea.
There are two main ideas. One is that one of the big things (so it seems) that affect how a house looks from the outside are the windows & their placement. My house is not exactly Versailles
but I can at least think about how the windows affect the looks.
The basic idea is that of 2' wide (by 3' high) double hung windows, which happens to be one of the stock kinds in my drawing program. They are assembled in groups of 2, with a foot between them. The groups are separated by intervals of either 4' (on the back) or 3' (on the sides).
There is a wall which is not symmetric in the addition, so I can't put the windows across in this pattern all the way. I put the 2x2 groups symmetrically on the back, but that left a wide gap in the middle, which I thought looked funny, so I centered a 3' wide window there.
Here is the north side. It has an extra set because I forgot to delete a wall that isn't really there (third from the left on the top row in this image). The windows really should be spread out more. However, on the lower floor, there will be a bathroom, so I need to make sure the bathroom & the windows play well together.
